Reflection Essay

When it comes to writing, I’ve always liked and loved it, since I first came to the United States to begin my education in middle school. I had no idea how to write my name on paper or on technology when I first started writing because I had never written before. In middle school, writing was a challenge for me. I remembered when I was struggling to write my paper for an English exam, so I kept writing “I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know,” and my teacher told me that even if I didn’t know how to write, I shouldn’t write “I don’t know, just write something.”When my teacher told me that, I feel embarrassed, but I also didn’t know what to write down on paper because nothing came to mind at the time. Later on, my art teacher holds my name and demonstrates how to write on paper, which is how I learned to write a paper.

Writing in multiple styles can be difficult; I’ve written in a variety of genres, but I didn’t have much experience writing science-related material. However, this class has taught me how to write many types of fiction and has improved my writing skills as well as my vocabulary. I’ve been writing for this class which has helped me enhance my writing skills, as well as my writing style and technique. Writing audience and research papers is something I’ve learned and improved on in this class. Research is one of my favorite things to write in this class because it allows me to write any research paper I want. There are so many research papers that I want to write about, and this class allows me to choose my own topic and write about it, which makes it simple for me.

Analysis and peer review were the most difficult topics for me to write because I usually got stuck when it came to writing my analysis and it was too different for me to write analysis in my paper. I always analyze, but it usually comes out badly, and I don’t like it. I dislike doing peer reviews since it’s difficult to understand some of the content because everyone writes differently and uses different tones. I thought the outline was extremely useful since it tells you what kind of information your essay requires and it also helps you organize your writing by order when you’re writing and I’m generally distracted by order and how to organize them. Outlining has helped me in the construction and organization of concepts in a logical and orderly manner. This helps me to select relevant information or quotes from my sources early in the writing process, providing my writers with a strong foundation and basis.

As you can see, this class has been really helpful in assisting me with my writing problems and in teaching me how to improve my writing skills. My favorite aspects of being in this class are that it is less stressful and that I do not have to worry about failing because Professor Caitlin assists you in staying on target and completing your work. I had a hard time finishing my projects on time due to the amount of work I had to do outside of class and in class, but Professor Caitlin allowed me more time to finish my work and was extremely helpful because I would have failed this class if she hadn’t helped me, and not every professor does so.
